All entries must be on the display table no later than
11:00
a.m. on the day
of the event. Judging will take place between
11:00
and 3:00
p.m.
The entry can be a charter or a scroll or it can be
painting on wood, glass,
fabric or something other than paper. The focus
is best display of medieval
painting techniques – in other words, making something
look like it could’ve
been painted and/or used in medieval times. So if you
paint a wooden box to
look like a box shown in a medieval painting or
manuscript or you paint a
silk banner to look like a banner that might have been
used in medieval
times, that would fit the criteria.
Baronial charters, Kingdom charters or
original scrolls are also acceptable. There is no
theme other than it needs
to be something historical-looking (within the SCA
timeframe) or something
SCA appropriate. If your item is a very large item, you
may bring a photo in
its stead (photo must be large enough to show
detail.)
Six prizes will be awarded: (If one person wins more
than one category, they
will only receive one prize.)
Adult – Novice (painting less than one year)
Best Painting on paper or vellum
Best Painting on something else (wood, glass, leather,
etc.)
Adult – Experienced (painting more than one year)
Best Painting on paper or vellum
Best Painting on something else (wood, glass, leather,
etc.)
Youth (age up to 10) best overall
Youth (age 11 to 17) best overall
Please provide a 3×5 card with your entry showing your
modern and SCA name,
phone number or email, your category (such as
Novice-paper or
Experienced-wood) and a brief description of what you
painted and where you
got your inspiration (what book or timeframe or
painting…) If you are
unsure of your category, the Judges will place it in
the appropriate
category. Please be honest about your skill
level.
Winners will be announced in evening court. You
do not need to be present
to win however you will need to have someone
responsible for your entry.
All entries must be picked up by 3:00 p.m. so that the
tables can be used
for the feast. If you are present, winners may be
asked to show their
entries in court.
If you have any questions about the contest, please
contact the Baronial
Scribe, HL Anne Brynley, at moonfeather@comcast.net
