The Shire of Hartwood’s White Court

Unto the populace of An Tir the Shire of Hartwood
extends invitation to our annual winter celebration. Enjoy
the warmth and hospitality of our Shire as we ward off
winter’s chill with “Hart”y feasting and revelry. Activities
include dancing, gaming, bardic, and other contests,
including the traditional finest blue and white garb.

Cost: Adults (13 and up) $20, children (6-12) $10,
under 6 free. Save money by purchasing before January 3,
2009: Adults $15, children $8. A non-member surcharge of $3
is in effect. Make cheques payable to the Shire of

Ticket sales will be cut off January 14th, to
ensure there is enough food purchased.  Thanks for all
who have already bought theirs!  Looking forward to
seeing you all.

6:00. Doors close at 11:00.

White Court Costume Contest:

My Lords and Ladies!
 We look forward to seeing you at White Court garbed in
your very best, and to that end are sponsoring a costume
contest.  Following tradition, we are looking for your
best blue and white garb, either worn or brought for display
purposes for the contest.  Rules for the contest shall
be as follows:

1) Each person will
be entitled to enter one piece of garb into the contest (this
piece of garb can of course consist of an entire
2) Entries CAN be
items which have been worn or entered into prior contests,
but that being said, previous contest winning pieces of garb
will not be eligible, in order to allow others a chance to
strut their stuff.
3) Since garb need
not necessarily be new, we are requesting documentation.
 This need not be extensive or “professional” grade, but
we would like to know where you found the information on this
piece of clothing, what country or people it represents, and
what time frame we would likely find this in if we were to
turn back the clock.
4) Inclusion of the
Hartwood stag, while not necessary, could garner you extra
points during the judging process!

recruited on site from those who are not entering the

M’Ladies Argolia and
Scathach will sponsor a bardic contest with winter
theme.  The prize will be hand made carved bone needles
in a carrved bone needle case. 

Children’s Colouring

M’Lords Mathuin and
Mishca will sponsor a children’s coloring contest of a Hart (
they will provide supplies) and the prize is a child’s

Bribe the Judges:

A “Judge Bribing
contest” is also going to occur, and here is how it
works: compeditors of any contest  can bring some
of their wares as bribes..ie: homemade jelly, card weaving,
embroidery etc.  Whatever is used to bribe the
judges then goes into an auction after the contest
winners are announced.  Funds from the auction will be
used to fill Hartwood coffers.  It is all in good fun,
and should be taken as such.  Judges of the other
contests are guaranteed to appreciate the bribes, but will
judge the contests based on the entrant’s merits, not their

only, a contest to see who can bring the most new people to
the event.  We want your friends to have as
much fun as you do in the SCA and this is a great place to
introduce them to the game.  And you get a prize!
