Greetings!
Many of you might not know me yet, so let me introduce myself: I’m Lady Beatriz of Lions Gate and I have recently received the honor of being the Arts and Science Champion of Tir Righ.
As a former scientist, one of the things I would like to promote during my term is the sharing of knowledge! With that in mind and having richly collaborated with my Bardic counterpart, we are inspired, by the spooky season and Their Highnesses most Dark Reign, to propose a fun set of themed activities to take place at November Coronet.
The sharing of certain types of knowledge has been heavily suppressed or even forbidden at times. Nonetheless, brave knowledge holders have gone through extreme measures to ensure their wisdom would be passed on, even in the darkest of times. As Arts and Science Champion, I would like to celebrate these acts of courage by calling on all artisans and scientist of Tir Righ to share their knowledge. The focus of this activity is to display the breadth of knowledge of our principality’s artisans and scientists. All forms of knowledge on the different modalities of arts and sciences are welcome, but we would like to especially encourage entries that have a “forbidden” flavour to them. This would include:
-
Natural (or even supernatural) sciences – I.e., any sort of knowledge pertaining to the realms of healing and/or medicine, knowledge about plants, animals or natural phenomenon, any chemistry or alchemy attempts, potion making or rituals that defy the natural order of things.
-
Literary arts – i.e., anything related to written transmission of knowledge by non-clerical and non-royal subjects, ranging from calligraphy and illumination to book binding or paper making
-
Vulgar or sensual content – i.e., clothes articles that could have offended the rules of modesty, drawings, painting or decoration that include obscenities, or any other object that could induce a good citizen to deviate from their righteous path (please keep in mind that this is an all ages event when considering your display)
-
Any other kind of art or science that would have or could have been forbidden at any point
This activity is not about presenting a finished object, it is about sharing forbidden knowledge. This can take the shape of a display of finished or in-progress products (or even photos or documented evidence of finished products that are no longer in the artisan’s possession), a written or oral description of a creative process, the presentation or demonstration of tools or methods for creating a product or any knowledge delivery on the form of lessons or open to public discussions about the arts and sciences.
Artisans and Scientists brave enough to come forward and share their wisdom at November Coronet are encouraged to submit their intentions, with a brief description of the knowledge they will be sharing and the format of their display to the A&S Champion (email: artsnsci.champion@tirrigh.org or here through the Book of Faces) by October 31st. Spaces will be limited, and may fill, please express intentions soon if you would like to participate!
Lady Beatriz of Lions Gate,
Arts & Sciences Champion of Tir Righ
Hello fellow Bards! I, Skald of Tir Righ, challenge you to a Showcase this November Coronet!!
The sharing of certain songs, stories, & performance arts has been heavily suppressed or even forbidden at times. Nonetheless, brave Bards through the ages have gone through extreme measures to ensure these pieces would be passed on, even in the darkest of times. I propose, in honour of Their Highnesses most Dark Reign, a celebration of these acts of courage by calling on all the Bards of Tir Righ to share with the populace the Forbidden Acts this November Coronet!
The focus of this activity is to delight in these acts that have been kept in the dark for too long, and to have fun performing them. Whatever your Bardic Art, be it Singing, Making Music, Storytelling, Dramatic Acting, Puppeteering, Juggling, Making Magic, Comedic Improv, Dancing, ALL are encouraged to participate! And yes, this includes as a GROUP as well! (There is strength in numbers, eh? Even as a duo or trio) Unlock the chains holding you back, take courage, and bring forth and perform a Bardic Act most Forbidden!!
But what was Forbidden? Well, some acts were declared Forbidden because they were:
-
-portraying the ruling authority in an unflattering manner
-
-about a particular subject or practice that the ruling authority did not want spread around
-
-medicine, herblore, alchemy, rituals, foreign gods, that which was deemed vulgar or sensual, etc.
-
-about a person who acted in a most forbidden way
-
-showing or demonstrating a most forbidden act or art
-
-deemed so for reasons the ruling authority decided upon…just because
Inspired? Excellent. Also, the piece you choose can be plucked right from medieval history or be SCAdian. And please do keep your Act to 7 minutes. If it should run over a little, you won’t be punished..too much
.
And remember, this Showcase is for the joy of it, the sharing of these pieces once again, and taking delight in each other’s time and talent! Sheet music or scripts will be allowed. There will be some prizes awarded to those who catch my eye. You can arrest my attention for a variety of reasons. Your performance could be the:
Bards brave enough to take part in such deviant company shall gather at the Bardic Circle on Saturday evening. ALL Bards are welcome to share their talent, whether your act was once forbidden or not. Bards that are eager to participate in the Forbidden Showcase are encouraged to submit their intentions, with a brief description of the act they will be performing, by carrier pigeon or over the internet to bardic.champion@tirrigh.org .
Hope to see you at November Coronet
