  • Harken ye all!
Soon when the frosts come, our breath is warm on the icy air, and the holly is green against the brown lands, there will be a Yule gathering: The Stag’s Revel!

Put on your finest and enter the lands of Hartwood to gather with friends and family to feast and drink. Make merry and send off Hartwood’s outgoing Champions and cheer on those competing for the honour of winning the titles of Hartwood Craftsman, Hartwood Scholar, and Hartwood Bardic Champion!
His Excellency Conall MacLagmayn will be hard at work in the kitchens to provide us with a fabulous feast, with recipes from times of yore.

The Twisted Sisters are delighted to be returning to tempt our palates with wines and ales and other surprises to keep our thirst slaked.

There will be lighthearted contests with prizes: Best Huntsman & Best Stag costumes! Have fun and be creative! There will also be a prize for the most beautifully decorated table. The Hartwood traditions of the Yule Tree and Yule Chest will be observed!

Gate and feast sales will begin September 15th. Feast sales will be open until November 1st. Gate sales will be open until November 25th. Due to modern liquor laws tickets will be pre-sale only for this event.

Morning classes
——————
10:30-12:00
How to make a Flemish Twist bowstring – HL Kjartan kraka
Students will learn how to make a Flemish Twist bow string.
Students need to bring their own bow and they will come away with their own string for that bow.
Cost: $5.00
Minimum 2; Maximum 10
ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED

11:00-12:00
Beginner Lucet Braiding – Signora Aspasia Bevilacqua
Braiding can be traced back to ancient prehistory.
The student will be able to create a square wool braid using a lucet. We will practice starting a lucet braid and work on ways to keep even tension.
The teacher will bring a lucet braiding book that students may look through at take photos of relevant pages to help with their learning.
Students should bring their own lucet if they have one; the instructor has some to loan for use in the class.
Cost: none
Minimum 2; Maximum 10

11:00-12:00
Passtyme with Cardes – Master Nicholas Worthington
We will learn Trionfi, a game for two to six, as a way to pass time with good company. If time and
interest allow, we will also look at Primaro, a gambling game, and one of Poker’s ancestors.
Cost: none
Minimum 2-3; Maximum 6-9
ADVANCE REGISTRATION PREFERRED

Afternoon classes
——————-
2:00-between 3:00-4:00
Dance for Yule – Master Nicholas Worthington
This class has two options.
option 1: If only Master Nicholas is teaching, it will be one hour, and he will teach The Horse’s Bransle, and Conrapasso.
option 2: Master Nicholas would like others to bring and teach other dances; if there are any takers, the class will be expanded to two hours.
Materials for the dances are posted here: https://mrnouveau.blogspot.com/p/dance-resources-for-dancing-in-sca.html
Cost: none
Minimum 2; Maximum 12
ADVANCE REGISTRATION PREFERRED

2:00-3:30
Bottle Cap Pin Cushion – Lady Giovanna de Sollario
Have you ever wanted to fill the Shire or Barony coffers with largesse? Want to learn an easy craft? Well then, do I have the class for you! You will sew up a cute pin cushion using felt, stuffing, embroidery threads, and yes, plastic bottle caps. This is a level entry sewing project for most people but for gentles with mad sewing skills this is an opportunity to embellish your pin cushion with felt flowers or embroidery – the sky is the limit.
Students should have some basic sewing skills.
Students should bring a sewing/embroidery needle and sissors – all other supplies will be on site.
Cost: $2.00
Minimum 2; Maximum 10

2:00-3:30
Butterbeer: Totally Tudor, Totally Delish! (19+) – HE Aniko Melyes
For legal purposes, all students must 19 years of age or older.
Butterbeer! No, not the coffeebucks version, but rich, fragrant, velvety and warm. This Tudor era recipe is delicious! Each student will receive a bottle full (500-750ml) to enjoy.
The instructor would LOVE it if students brought their favourite beer to exchange with instructor for ale. Instructor will bring enough of the same kind of ale for the class (this will ensure we don’t end up with 5 different ales).
Allergy list: Eggs, Butter (dairy), Clove, Ginger, Alspice, Beer
Student should bring a heat proof container approx 500-750 (mason jar or flip top bottle), a cup for sampling and optionally, an apron wouldn’t be a bad idea. Bring one beer to exchange with teacher for class.
Cost: $5.00 plus one beer
Minimum 3; Maximum 6
