Winter brings cold winds, ice and snow. The warmth we find in the love and companionship of those around us makes every winter easier to bare. Let us come together on this 2nd of December to share companionship and friendship and celebrate one more year coming to an end. Join us at our annual Aquaterra Good Yule for cheer, merriment and a fantastic feast as well as our Bardic Championship and Arts and Sciences Championship. Come participate, support or help judge our competitors. Help us choose and bring forth our new champions.

We want to encourage anyone who is interested in the SCA to join us at this feast. This event is a great opportunity to chat with those who have been participating in our society for a long time, for a short time and everything in-between. Come, participate, socialize and connect with people who share your same interests. We welcome everyone and look forward to spending this day with all our old friends and the opportunity to make new friends.

We would like to remind everyone coming to the feast to keep in mind a few things:

▪︎ We will provide finger food for lunch by donation for those that are interested.

▪︎ Please remember to bring your own feast gear. (Plates, bowls, utensils, cups, all the things you eat with. Optional: bring a resealable container in case there are leftovers you’d like to take home.)

▪︎ We will provide carafes of water on each table but if you want something other than water to drink you will want to bring it but please remember it is a DRY site. Please bring non-alcoholic beverages only.

▪︎As you may already know, we will have a couple of charity auctions. Please remember to bring cash or a checkbook so you don’t miss out on taking home something incredible.

We thank you all for giving us the opportunity to share this day with you.

Rules for the Aquaterra Arts and Sciences Championship

The Aquaterra Arts and Sciences Championship theme is persona based. What is one of the things that you love about your persona and that has helped you continue to develop it?

This can be a song, a story, a piece of clothing, food, embellishment, or activity. ANYTHING that you find most interesting that is part of your persona that you would like to share.

Example: I enjoy researching and making period food and sharing it with anyone and everyone!

The requirements for this year’s competition are as follows:

1) Write a research document about it. – No need to panic. – we expect a minimumof ONE page but you can do more if you like. We have a basic outline that you can use as a guide available if you are interested.

Please bring 3 copies of your documentation so the judges have the ability to read it independently. – I can print them in color for you if you send them to me at least 2 days before Good Yule.

2) Have something to show – it could be the thing, or a poster with pictures or playing of the music in the background, the game, the art – you get the idea!

3) Be ready for your presentation to be about 10 minutes (I promise it is not as hard as it may sound). Please do not read directly from your paper.

Judging- we will have a panel of selected participants at Good Yule.

We will use the Kingdom Judging form – but don’t worry too much about that, please have fun with this.

The goal is to learn more about you, and help you practice working on an Arts & Sciences project.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you need any assistance. I am not one of the judges!

Adeliza1@yahoo.com

Thank you and good luck to everyone.

Rules for the Aquaterra Bardic Championship

1. There will be a total of two (2) pieces presented by each participant.

2. Any and all bardic arts may be presented. (Song, story, instrumental music, drama, dance, etc.)

3. The first piece will be of the contestants’ choosing, either period or non-period but SCA appropriate.

A. Documentation for these pieces will be no more than 500 words.

B. Illustrations, appendixes, and bibliography will not apply to word count.

C. If a non-period piece is used, documentation must include what makes it an appropriate piece

4. Each bardic presentation will be a total of 20 minutes maximum. The first 10 minutes will be given for each presentation, with an additional 10 minutes for questions and answers with the judges.

5. The second presentation will be Master Jason’s bardic challenge.

A. Each participant will receive a piece to perform prior to the event. (The earlier you declare your intent, the more time you will have to prepare your piece.)

B. The same piece will be sent to all participants. It will be a period song, with English and French lyrics.

C. Though the piece will be a song, it is up to the performer as to how it will be presented. It can be done as a song (with either or both sets of lyrics used), as a dramatic reading, as a basis for a puppet show, as interpretive dance, etc. This is the place to let your creativity be shown. Let your imagination run wild!

D. As in the first piece, each bardic presentation will be a total of 20 minutes maximum. The first 10 minutes will be given for each presentation, with an additional 10 minutes for questions and answers with the judges.

E. Documentation will not be required for this piece but may be presented if the contestant so desires

Youth and Family Activities

Good Yule is all about coming together and sharing our time and love with those around us but we also sometimes need to keep our hands busy. This year we would like to offer an activity for people of all ages. We will offer a holiday ornament station where you can stop by and make a holiday ornament for yourself or to give to someone special! We will of course have other youth activities as well such as coloring activities and many different games to keep the younger ones entertained and happy!

Volunteer Information

We are requesting volunteers to help us with the Silent auction and the dessert auction. If you have had experience with these two things please reach out to the event stewards but we also have many other volunteer opportunities for this event, please let us know how we can help you in finding a way to be a part of the magic.

We thank you for your service.

Merchant Information

We will not have merchants at this event but we will have our annual silent auction and our annual dessert auction.

Feel free to contact the event team if you would like to donate any items for the silent auction ahead of time or if you are unable to do so prior to the event please feel free to bring the items the day of the event and we will add them to the auction.

Now for the best part. Dessert! We all look forward to our annual dessert auction. A place where one can get their hands on incredible dessert dishes to share with family and friends OR to have all on your own. We don’t judge.  The dessert options are donated by the generous populace of Aquaterra. We thank you in advance and ask those kind enough to enter a dessert into the auction to bring a detailed list of ingredients along with your dish so those interested have the ability to choose accordingly.

The proceeds of this year’s auction will go to Beck’s Place.

Beck’s Place provides resources for families in crisis that are faced with the choice of taking care of the human family members or taking care of the furry family members. There are social services and there are animal welfare services.  But there are few, if any, organizations that comprehensively provide services that care for an entire family – people and pets. Beck’s Place changes the way families are served.  From our Foster Boarding Program to Paw It Forward they take care of both people and pets.

Help us support Beck’s Place in continuing to serve families in Snohomish County.
