10:00 – Gate opens

11:00 – Banquet Hall & upstairs lobby open for socializing,
games & dancing

12:00 – Baroness Bergdis – edible garnishes.  What
you make, you’ll get to eat later.

12:30 – 1:30 – Master Owen the Merry – Commedia
dell Arte – Explore the basics of this unique period theater form.
Commedia is a mix of masks, archetypal characters and plots, and
improvisation.

1:00 – 2:30 – Mrq Laurellen – Italian Renaissance
Painting Practices & Style – Much of what we study in the SCA
is informed by extant two-dimensional art. Often, oil painting –
which gained popularity in the late 15th century, becomes primary
documentation for recreated clothing and other cultural artifacts.
The paintings themselves, however, are a window into how oil
painting both evolved from illumination practices of the previous
centuries and retained those foundational methods while evolving
through the 16th century. This class will begin with a discussion
of the materials used by High Renaissance masters such as Leonardo
da Vinci and will focus on the methods of the Northern Italian
painters during the early part of the 16th century. Demonstrations
on supports, grounds, tools and equipment, pigments-into-paints,
and the glazing process will be used to support the discussion.
Lastly, the discussion and demonstration will touch on the
compositional process of the High Renaissance masters. No prior
painting experience is necessary!

lobby & lodge room
