THE BARONY OF GLYMM MERE INVITES YOU TO MAYFAIRE! 30 APRIL TO 2 MAY, AT THE RIVERGLENN CAMPGROUNDS ORTING, WASHINGTON

Shake out the tentage, repack the tourney boxes! By gracious permission of the Barony of Blatha an Oir, the Barony of Glymm Mereâ??s Mayfaire XXIII will be at Riverglenn Campground near Orting, WA from 30 April to 2 May, 2004. You are most heartily invited to join us for a pleasant weekend by the river to start the SCA New Year in cordial company.

We would like very much to make this Mayfaire an event like the â??good old daysâ?? we all seem to miss. Think about what you remember, and try to make it happen again. Smile, reach out to newcomers, lend a hand. Sing, play, delight in the company of our extended family. Live the Dream!

The merchantâ??s village will be located on the eric, so that you can watch the fighters and shop in the same neighborhood. This is a perfect chance to see many of those vendors who may not be able to merchant at Crown in Canada.

One whole side of the eric will be open for day shades and armor drops. The entire area from the eric to the road will be open. Day trippers and all who have day shades to set up are most welcome to use this area, but please remember to leave room for the fighters to move about safely.

There is a shady space not far from the erics and merchantâ??s village set aside for picnicking or relaxing during the day. The newly constructed fire pit in that area will become the gathering place for the Ermine Cross Bardic Championship on Saturday evening. Baroness Rhonwen hopes to see many of the talented bards of An Tir around the fire.

The Glymm Mere Rapier Championâ??s tourney is on tap as the first fighting of the day on Saturday. The winner of this tournament becomes the Baronial Champion for a year, and must be able to swear fealty to the Baron and Baroness. Random swashbuckling could happen, too! Perhaps there will be a tavern brawl if there is enough interest.

Sir Walter is running 3 single-elimination heavy tourneys to decide an overall Mayfaire winner. There will be a prize for each tournament, as well as an overall prize. Get ready for that long Crown tourney just a few weeks away!

Archos Gryphon the Black is running adult and childrenâ??s archery tournaments, a thrown weapons tourney, and has been muttering gleefully about wands and garlands. Real wands and garlands will be featured in the main archery tourney. Prizes will be awarded for both adult and childrenâ??s archery, and for thrown weapons. Look for the archery range to be a busy place. There may be a blanket tourney at the archery range on Sunday if there is enough interest.

Maitresse Elisabeth de Besancon is hosting an artisans display and forum in the brand new A&S pavilion on the erics Saturday. The pavilion will be open from 11 AM until dusk for artisans of all types, from beginners to laurels to gather. Bring a project to work on if you wish, or just come to share good company.

There will be a display for comment from 1 until 4 PM. Displays can be finished projects or works in progress. Light refreshments will be available during this time. Be sure you stop by to check out the heraldry painted on the dags of this new pavilion, too.

There will be a pot-luck Baronial Brunch on the eric on Sunday morning. All are invited to bring a contribution to the Baronial pavilion and break your fast from 8-10 with us. No particular theme, unless there is a movement to do something fun before the day arrives. The fun-loving folks of Glymm Mere are likely to take such suggestions and run with them. Lady Gwenlian is in charge, check with her on site if you have questions.

Once the brunch things have been cleared away, the erics will be open for pick-ups or small tournaments. Please contact the marshal on site if you would like to sponsor a heavy or rapier tournament on Sunday.

As with any event, many hands make light work. Please consider giving a bit of your time in the many areas where volunteers are needed. Volunteer sign-up sheets will be located at gate. Our goal is to see that no one person is so over-worked that they donâ??t get to enjoy the event.

As the Barony currently does not have a Pied Piper, there are no activities planned for children or the young adults. If there is someone who would like to offer games or other diversions for the younger set, please get in touch with the autocrat at the information listed below. An area may still be made available if there is someone willing to be in charge of such activities, or you may offer your own area.

Mayfaire is not reserving camp space except for royals, a Glymm Mere Baronial encampment, and the autocrat staff. Thus camping space is on a first come, first served basis. We all enjoy having a common space in household encampments, and such spaces will be preserved as much as possible. Please be considerate when arranging your camping space, and take no more than what is truly needed for your group. There is *much* more usable area than in the past at Riverglenn. You are in for a treat if you have not been to this site for a while, it looks and feels more park-like than ever.

Now for the important information: Directions and site fees.

From the north, make your way to SR167 south, exit to SR162. Go south (towards Orting) on SR162 approximately 4.5 miles to Riverglenn Campground. (If you cross the stone bridge, youâ??ve gone too far. ) From the south, take I-5 to SR512. At the merge with SR167 north, bear right on SR410. Exit to SR162 and proceed to Riverglenn.

Site opens 30 April at noon for merchants, and 3 PM for the populace. No early arrivals, please. Early arrivals may be asked to wait in the gate area, or accepted as â??volunteersâ?? for the site set-up crew. Site closes 2 May at 3 PM.

This is a wet site, please remember that all modern laws and SCA rules are in effect and we have a NO TOLERANCE policy for underage drinking and illegal substances.

Please see the site handout for fire regulations. Fire danger at the time of the event will determine the level of flame which will be allowed during Mayfaire. No ground fires will be allowed in any case, but braziers 12â?? or more from the ground are usually acceptable except in cases of severe fire danger. Enclosed candles or oil lanterns should be used if at all possible. Tiki torches may be allowed if the fire danger is low.

Fees: Adults: $15, day trip $10, +$3 NMS (non-member surcharge) if applicable. Children 6-15 years, $8, under age 6 free Family cap $46 (before non-member surcharge)

Please visit the Mayfaire website www.angelfire.com/wa3/mayfaire2004 for updates on all activities.
