Celebrate the thirty-fourth Tournament of the Golden Swan. There will be classes, contests, a rapier and a heavy tourney, bardic competition and more, including the infamous Jawbone of the Ass. Class lists and information will be available closer to the date. We hope the ancient tradition of free-form bocce will break out.
There will be a Swan Tea hosted by the Golden Swans, and some “Swan Squawks” or “TED Talks by Swans,” short talks or demonstrations of something related to their persona.
This year, Golden Swan will be at Camp Boyle near Summerland, BC, which features a large hall, indoor washrooms and showers, outdoor camping, and bunkhouses!
Site opens at 4 on Friday, closes at 1 on Monday.
Saturday will feature Marnie’s catered feast. Reserved in advance tickets $15 for 12 and over, $20 after September 30.
Sunday is a potluck feast. A peasant’s breakfast of hot oatmeal and warm spiced applesauce will be for sale Saturday and Sunday.
The site will be discreetly damp to dry. This is important.
There are bunkhouses onsite, no reservations needed. There are also RV and camping spots in a woodland. No RV hookups are available but camping spots are level and quiet. There are showers onsite.
There are motels and B&Bs in Summerland. The site is 20-25 minutes drive from Summerland on paved and unpaved roads, so plan accordingly. The nearest grocery stores, gas stations and other amenities are also in Summerland, so be prepared.
Gate fees: $30 for a long weekend of camping and merriment. $20 day fee. SCA Membership entitles you to a $5 discount at the gate. Minors are free when with parents or guardians. Make cheques payable to the Society for Creative Anachronism Shire of Appledore.
