Meal Information

A message from the event team,
When meeting with the hotel, we learned two important pieces of information related to food availability at the hotel.
As of the beginning of this year, they no longer offer free breakfast for hotel guests. They do offer a paid breakfast buffet from 7am to 10am daily. Ages 13 and up are $12, ages 6-12 are $7, 5 and under are free.
At this time, the hotel restaurant is not open for lunch. They are hoping this will be resolved before our event, however they are not able to guarantee that right now. Hotel rooms do have refrigerators and microwaves. There are also several restaurants near the hotel, including one across the street.
The hotel restaurant is open for dinner.

Tournament Information

Alpine Scholar:

Greetings from Dawnhela Heartsblood, Summits Alpine Scholar. It is time again to join in the competition to represent the Principality as their Highnesses’ champion. The requirements for the competition are as follows: two entries and a class. Letters of intent are due no later than 12th Night and should specify the class & entry topics and categories (paper, object, etc.)
The class can be taught on site during the competition or anytime between now and the end of January, if you record the lesson. Recorded lessons must be submitted by the end of January so judges have an opportunity to view the recorded lessons in advance of the competition; all competitors, regardless of when they teach, will have a 15-minute post-class discussion with the judges. While the class is not scored, it is a required element of the competition. It is our hope that the Principality competition provides valuable feedback for all, and especially for those who wish to compete at the Kingdom level. Therefore, we will use the Kingdom Judging rubrics. These can be found in the Kingdom’s library; I enclose a link here. http://arts.antir.org/forms. This year the Kingdom rubrics have been updated, so please make sure you have the most up to date version.
Let the glory of the Summits be on display!

Questions and letters of intent can be emailed to danyalnorris1031@gmail.com or can be shared to Dawnhela Heartsblood (Danyal Norris) on the Book of Faces. Guidelines for classes will follow. In general plan the class to last no longer than 45 minutes with 15 minute q&a. If you are wanting to participate please let me know what you want to present so I can start arranging judges.

Bard of the Summits:

Greetings unto the bards of the mighty Principality of the Summits! The time draws nigh for us to come together once again to share with one another a joyous noise, and select the next Bardic Champion of the Summits! There are some changes this year so if you are inclined to the performing arts, please pay heed! The competition now includes children, so if you are a parent to performing youngsters, read on!
As before, the Bardic Championship will consist of three portions:
1. The first portion will be period works, with written documentation provided to the judges at the time of the competition, and a spoken introduction and explanation of the historicity of the piece so that all in attendance may know the context of the work.
2. The second portion of the competition will be a piece in a completely different performance style than their offerings in the first and third portions. Ergo, if a vocalist sings songs for phase 1 and 3, they should play a period instrument, or perform a monologue, or tell a story, or an interpretive dance, or other such work that does not principally rely upon singing. Vice versa, if an instrumentalist plays a lute for 1 and 3, they can sing, dance, and/or play a different non-stringed instrument for number 2. This change is an effort to be more inclusive to the non-vocal bards in our midst, and seeks to select a bard who is well rounded in the performing arts. All pieces performed in the second portion need not be strictly period, however they must be period-related or inspired, with documentation attesting to how it is period inspired provided to the judges at the time of the competition, and an introduction for the masses.
3. The third portion will again be ‘bring your best.’ This is your chance to wow the judges with your most impressive piece. It does not need to be strictly period, though it must be period-related or inspired. Documentation for this segment is not required, though appreciated if provided. A brief introduction is requested.
-The third portion will include a Youth Bardic Competition! Youths 17 and under are encouraged to regale us with their preferred performance method. Youth are encouraged to perform period or period-related pieces and document as they are able, but these are NOT required for participation and we will be glad to have them perform for us regardless! Play us Jingle Bells on an electric keyboard; anything goes for the kids! The goal with this is to encourage and inspire the next generation of Summits Bards with positive feedback and recognition in court.
Entrants for both the Bardic Championship and the Youth Bardic Contest must send notification of their intent to enter no later than 31 January, so that a schedule may be constructed and disseminated before the event. Notices of intent must include mundane and SCA names, with preferred titles, and a list of which piece they will be performing for each portion. The total time limit for a Championship entrant is 15 minutes of performance time, not including introductions. Please keep youth contestant entries to 5 minutes or less. Please send notice of intent to enter to benjamin.m.ward2@gmail.com. Questions may be directed to the same, or sent by DM to Ben Ward on the Book of Faces.

Youth and Family Activities

Greetings from the Fel, Bard of the Summits,

Youth of the Principality are summoned to participate in our first Summits Youth Bardic Competition! Kids 17 and under are encouraged to share their best performance piece, in whatever style or period they prefer. Youth are encouraged to try a period or period-related piece and document if they are able, but these are NOT required for participation and we will be glad to have them perform for us regardless! All skill levels are encouraged to perform! The goal with this is to encourage and inspire the next generation of Summits Bards to stand up and make a joyful noise in front of an audience, with positive feedback and recognition in court. Entrants for the Youth Bardic Competition must send notification of their intent to enter no later than 31 January. Please include mundane and SCA names, with preferred titles, and which piece they will be performing. Please keep entries to about 5 minutes or less. Please send any questions and notice of intent to enter to benjamin.m.ward2@gmail.com.
