Shire of Cold Keep St. David’s Day |
The
Shire of Cold Keep is hosting its St. David’s Day event on
March 11, 2006. As part of St. David’s Day celebrations, the
Welsh celebrate their culture. This event is, like the
holiday it is named after, a celebration of SCA culture, who
we are and what we do. (In other words, you neither need to
be Welsh nor need to know anything about St. David in order
to participate.) In this spirit, we are looking for
instructors interested in sharing their knowledge of the SCA
and medieval life. Heavy and rapier fighting, archery, and
arts and sciences are all welcome to attend and instruct.
Please contact the autocrat if you are interested in either
teaching or learning. Don
Prospere’ is travelling from distant lands to teach
rapier. Rapier classes have been allotted the
daytime hours, so the earlier it starts, the more time you
have to play.
Heavy
fighting instruction will be offered by Vladimir
Andreivich Aleksandrov, squire to Sir Geoffrey de Rennes. He
will also be teaching a course on chivalry.
A target
archery overview will be taught by Lord Markus
Pheilsmid. A very basic combat archery course will be
conducted as well. The site
opens at 10am and closes at 11pm. Site fee is $5.
For Non-Members, the standard additional $4 will be charged.
Make cheques payable to the Shire of Cold Keep. Additional
nominal fees may be charged for classes. Proposed
Schedule (except for the start and end times, this
is subject to change)
The
“feast” will be potluck. Please provide a main dish
that will feed approximately 8 people. Include a list of all
ingredients for those with dietary restrictions.
Available in the
onsite kitchen are:
For
those who want outside establishments during the day, within
walking distance are Save-On-Foods, London Drugs, Tim
Hortons, Second Cup, Red Robin, White Spot, McDonald’s, a
Japanese restaurant, and a few other easily accessible
places. (It’s located shouting distance from the Parkwood
Mall.) The site is at the
intersection of Victoria Street (Trans-Canada 16) and 17th
Avenue. Parking is accessible from 17th Avenue. Drive around
to the rear of the building. From the east:
Drive into Prince George using Route 16. Turn left onto
Victoria Street. Shortly after the Save-On-Foods, the site
will be on your left. From the west: Drive into Prince George
using Route 16. Turn left onto Victoria Street. The site will
be on your right. From the north or south, drive to Prince
George using Route 97. Once there, turn east onto Route 16
and follow the directions as if “from the west”. SCA signs
will be posted. Connaught Youth
