Sand and Surf War IV

Once again, the Shire of Vulkanfeldt invites the Sand (the Inlands area) and the Surf (West of the Cascades) to a weekend of fun, companionship and WAR. To be held the 2^nd weekend of April, the 11^th – 13^th at Fullbright Park in Union Gap, just South of the Yakima, WA city limits and site of last years war, 2001 September Crown, and our annual Archery Festival.

The war site opens at 2:00 p.m. (Merchants at Noon) on Friday and closes Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Armor inspection will start at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with the war to follow at 12:30 p.m. War points will be awarded for the battles in the war, youth and adult archery, a rapier tournament, best looking period encampment, a period culinary contest involving chicken, beef, and others TBA.

There will be a soup kitchen Friday night. The site is discreetly wet. There is a small stream on one side of the site. Parents, please watch your children! Possible cool nighttime temperatures. No ground fires,  fire pans 18″ off the ground. Merchants are welcomed with no merchant fee, contact merchantcrat.

SITE FEES: $10 for those over 12, $5 for children 6 – 12 with 5 and under at no cost. Modern family cap is $27. There will be a $3 SCA non-member surcharge. Make checks out to “Shire of Vulkanfeldt, SCA Inc”.

Mileage: Ellensburg = 38 mi. Omak = 185 mi. Richland = 70mi. Seattle = 146 mi. Spokane = 205 mi. Tacoma = 156 mi. Walla Walla = 125 mi. Wenatchee = 102 mi.

Directions: Take your best route to Yakima, WA on I82. Take exit #36 (Union Gap/Valley Mall Blvd.) West and drive past the AM/PM. At the light turn left onto Main St. Stay in your left-hand lane and drive past the Pepperstick Drive In. Go up over the viaduct. Immediately after the top of the bridge, turn right at the sign: “Fullbright Park/Central Washington Agricultural Museum” 4508 Main St. Union Gap, WA 98903. If you get to the entrance of the mobile home park, you’ve gone too far.
