Wealdsmere’s annual feast event returns with a Mongolian-themed feast, competitions for Heavy, Rapier, A&S, Games, and Cut & Thrust, and a relaxed environment for socializing, working on projects, or teaching classes.

As is tradition, our competitors for the various tournaments are asked to bring a toy for the Toys for Tots program as their “entry fee” for the competitions. Attendees who wish to bring a toy to donate are welcome to do so, but it is not required for entry into the event. We request that only new, unwrapped toys in their original packaging are donated.

This event is hosted at a private property, and our site hosts do not allow smoking, vaping, or the use of marijuana products on the premises. Please exit site if you need to use tobacco or marijuana products. We apologize for any inconvenience.

As a reminder: if you will be competing in the adult or youth competitions, please attend morning Court at 09:00am for invocations. Thank you!

Meal Information

Octoberfeast this year is a Mongolian feast. There will be alternatives available for people who are vegan, dairy free, and Celiac disease. Please indicate any dietary restrictions on the feast pre-registration form so we can accommodate your needs.

We will start with a Bantan Soup. Then we will serve Ròubǐngr, Tsuvian, and sauteed Asian greens. After dinner, there will be a dessert bar with Boortsog and a rice pudding with Goji Berry jam and Seabuckthorn Berry jelly. There will be a special Seabuckthorn Drink available for those interested in trying it.

We look forward to showcasing a culinary adventure into the nomadic steppes in the era of Khans!

Tournament Information

All competitors are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy in its original packaging for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.

Arts and Sciences: Largesse-Focused Competition

Hosted by ‘Izza al-Dimashquiyya

Entrants must submit something which could be donated to largesse, and provide documentation on how to make the item. (1) point for the item itself, (1) point for the documentation, (1) point for Populace Choice, (1) point for Baron’s Choice, (1) point for Baroness’ Choice. In the event of a tie, the Baron and Baroness will jointly choose the victor.

Games Competition

Hosted by Gaius Sokolov

The games tourney will span two hours as self-reporting competitors may choose between chess, manqalah/mancala, and knave-and-fool/war. The person with the most wins becomes champion; if needed, a tie-breaker game will be chosen by the current champion.

A wide variety of games will be available for all to play throughout the day.

Rapier Tournament

Hosted by Michael of Lancaster

The rapier competition will be a London Masters style tournament. There will be four rounds: Single sword, sword and buckler/shield, sword and cape, and sword and dagger. Each round will be a round robin. If enough people show up, it will be single kill; if only a few, then best of 3. Scores will be tallied, and then if there is an obvious front runner, there will not be a final round. If the final scores are close, there will be a final round.

Cut and Thrust Tournament

Hosted by Morganus Eternus

The cut and Thrust tournament will be round robin, with three passes per pairing.
Each win is worth a point—doubles count as a loss for both fighters and will not be refought.
After all fights in the round robin, the top two scoring fencers will fight a finals match.
The finals match will be best of three, doubles are still destructive and will not be refought.
If the finalists double out, the third and fourth place fighters will fight for the finals, and so on.
We will not be playing with An Tir’s standard greater blow convention. Instead, the following rules will be used:
A blow to the head, torso, armpit, or inner thigh is a kill.
A cut or thrust to the sword arm, or a cut to the leg is incapacitating.
A cut or thrust to the off arm disables the arm, as in rapier.
A thrust to the leg disables the leg, the fighter may post (but may not go to their knees!)
Fighters fighting case or two-hander must designate an off arm.
Killing blows beat incapacitating blows, which beat disabling blows. The fighter with the greater blow (based on this definition) wins
If both fighters land a killing blow, or if both fighters land an incapacitating blow, the fight is a double.
The fight does not end for disabling blows.
Swords are limited to 38” maximum blade length for one handed swords, and 40” for two handed swords.
Some loaner gear, including swords will be available, and we ask that folks with loaner gear bring it if able.
