Winter is Coming(eventually)

Before it arrives, we must brave the Autumn.

Before that is summer, and THAT is when we are hosting an
event
The Shire of Appledore invites you to test your survival skills at
Midsummer Mayhem, an event which can have only one name. Deep in
the the Wilds of Tir Righ, not really near
the Borderlands at all, we are hosting an Archery Tournament and
Cooking Competition. Contest details are below event info.

This is a team event! You cannot go it alone. You are required
to have one with the skill of a bow to capture the food (ie. an
archer) and one with the ability to cook it into a fine dish that
will not aid in indigestion (ie. a cook).

There will also be a Tablero Tournament, Bardic fire and potluck
supper with Roast Beast on Saturday evening. For those who don’t
eat Beast, a vegan option will be provided.

The site is a working vineyard and farm near the river on the
outskirts of Grand Forks. There is plenty of level ground for tents
as well as room for RVs. Please contact the site owners or autocrat
if you’re bringing an RV so space can be set aside for you. There
will be portable toilets and access to water. All dogs must be on
leashes or in crates or pens at all times, due to the presence of
livestock on the farm.

July 11-13 at Baron’s Bank, 5450 Almond Gardens Road, Grand
Forks BC Site opens at 2pm on Friday and closes 5pm Sunday
Site fee includes Roast Beast or vegan alternative on Saturday
night. Please bring a potluck dish for 8 or more as well.

There is a Distillery on site which may be open for tasting if
you ask nicely

Site Fee $15 (NMS rules apply) 6 – 12 years old $10 Under 6 free
Family cap $45

Directions: Make your way to Grand Forks on Highway 3. Turn
south on Spraggett Road one block west of Extra Foods. Stay on this
road as it crosses the bridge, then turns right and becomes Almond
Gardens Road West. At Almond Gardens Road proper, turn left. The
site is the first gate on your left.

There are motels, restaurants, gas stations, supermarkets and
liquor stores along Highway 3 or in Grand Forks itself.

Archery and Cooking Contest Information

***Teams, please pre-register so we can prepare supplies***

Each team will be given 5 ingredients. These must all be used in
your dish. Failure to use all 5 items may result in
disqualification. Make your best dish in 2 hours.

Each team may also bring 3 items from home.

There will be a limited pantry to draw from. The kind of stuff
you might find in any fridge + Spices etc.
If you want additional items, your archer may compete for them with
a bow. But beware: if you try and fail, you may have additional
items that must be used!

For instance:
Let’s say you want Bacon. (Who wouldn’t, right?)

There is only bacon for 1 team.
The archers have to shoot targets for it and the winner gets bacon
for their team.

So far so good.

BUT, only the winning archer will get the bacon.
Everyone else who shot, despite their valiant effort, will receive
a food item for their efforts – just not what they expected.
No matter what it is, it must be used.
This will be fun.

Other mayhem and frivolity will erupt as the weekend proceeds.
