Come one and all to bear witness as our glorious Baron and Baroness, Cyneric and Arianna, select the victors of this year’s Barony of Lions Gate gentle arts championships! We humbly invite you to vie for the illustrious title of champion in Arts & Sciences, Bardic, and Games at Canterbury Fayre! Join us also for the Golden Bolt Archery Tournament, Rapier Activities and TUTR classes by an assortment of amazing instructors! There will be Child and Youth Activities, alluring Merchants, Food vendor lunch, Bring your own Picnic dinner, Bardic and Dancing in the evening! Please note that, as there will be a Tavern at the event, OUTSIDE ALCOHOL IS PROHIBITED!!!

Meal Information

SwanSong Kitchen and guest chef Pak Nammo are thrilled to offer dayfood for Lions Gate’s Canterbury Fayre! This year, we have some breakfast options and a choice of two lunches, East meeting West!

The hot beverage Hospitality station will have coffee, tea and hot chocolate, by donation, so please bring your spare coin!

Breakfast: (served 9 am-11 am) Quiche Slice (Bacon or Leek, French Toast Fingers with Fruit Preserve, Fresh Fruit, Coin of the Realm or other Cookies

Lunch: (Prepurchased meals will be available for pick up from 11 am, A La Carte will be available from 11:30am)

EAST: Tea Egg, Water Kim Chi (a mildly spiced ferment of cabbage, radish and daikon) Gingered Beef over Rice, Courgette or Carrot Namul (a cooked vegetable side dish), Tonkatsu Ramen Soup, Fried Honey Cookies

WEST: Hardboiled Egg, Pickle, Ham and Cheese on Dark Rye, Small Salat (a fresh green salad), Ham and Pea Soup, Apple Tartlet

Most of these options will be available A La Carte, but the only guarantee of their availability will be if they are pre-purchased. East or West full Lunch: $10, as given.

Etransfers are preferable for pre-orders, as it allows us to track and trace who ordered and paid for what! Price and ingredient lists will follow!

Tournament Information

10:30 – RAPIER TOURNAMENT

All rapier fighters are invited by Lord Lokki to join in a little bragging rights prize tournament.

 

13:00 – ARCHERY: Golden Bolt Tournament

Top Crossbow score wins the Golden Bolt for the next year. Mini York round Target will be a 122 cm target, and scoring will be by color (one to five points per bolt). You will shoot 12 rounds of 6 arrows each. First 6 rounds will be at 50 yards Next 4 rounds will be at 40 yards Last 2 rounds will be at 30 yards All archers (crossbows and bows) are welcome to shoot. There will be a prize for the top crossbow and bow score.

 

 

Youth and Family Activities

The Kids Corner will be open with colouring, reading and a special craft: handmade sock puppets!

TUTR CLASS LIST & SCHEDULE

Due to space considerations, all classes will be capped at 6 attendees unless otherwise noted.

All classes are free of charge unless otherwise noted. Pre-registration via Personal Message is appreciated but not required. All fees are payable to the Instructors at the beginning of each class.

10:30 am to 11:30 am

Heat Safety for SCA Events: The summer event season is coming. This course will teach you the way heat, humidity, clothing, activity, medication and other factors interact so you can take to appropriate measures to keep yourself and others safe from heat stress. Your Instructor: Einarr Karlsson

Dye to Paint: From a simple petal can come so many useful decorative elements. In this class we will go over how to extract dye pigments from a plant. We will discuss how you can utilize the pigments, from dyeing fabric to creating paint and ink, and what additional products and processes are required for each product. Bring any questions you have, pen/pencil & paper. Your Instructor: Dame Margaret Hamilton of Stirlingshire

Pattern Drafting: Fabric is a two-dimensional material, but human bodies have three! Learn how to go from two dimensions, to three, and back to two again! In this class, we’ll go over how to go from a list of measurements to a workable base pattern for any kind of garment. Bring paper scissors and a pen. Your Instructor: Lady Rose McAllistair Fee: $5.00

Cuttlebone Pewter Casting: Learn a simple and age-old technique of metal casting. Students will cast a small necklace pendant out of pewter. No experiences or supplies necessary. Your Instructor: Nereugei Fee: $5.00

Multi-Strand Weaving: Multi-strand braiding, such as the tin-studded woven bracelet preserved in the Whitehorse Hill cist burial in the UK, has been practiced for thousands of years. In this class, six students will weave a variety of sample braids with up to thirteen strands, in natural fibers such as cotton, wool, and jute. All materials will be supplied for sample braids. To braid a long project, like a belt, bring a belt ring and braiding fiber, if you wish. Your Instructor: Duchess Megan ferch Meredydd Fee: $2.00

SCA Dance: Step into a short history of English Country Dance, and skip out into some of the SCA’s favourite beginner dances. Basic figures and key definitions will be introduced. Bring your enthusiasm and a comfortable pair of shoes. Your Instructor Lady Roesia du Bois Class Limit: 6

Textile Workers’ Social: Weavers, sewers, spinners, and all other craftspeople working with textiles of any description, drop in, have a chat, share your triumphs and groan about your failures!

Abandoned Projects Swap: We all have them, projects that we started and then abandoned before they were finished. So, dig out those dusty, neglected projects, make sure that all the pieces and any instructions are included, and show them off! Someone else is sure to be interested. Who knows, you may find the perfect half-finished project for yourself! Pre-Registration is appreciated, but not required.
