What to Know About Field Heraldry

Instructor:  Angharat verch Reynulf. OL, LowenMahne Herald and  Ysolt Tayler of Windhill, OP, Kingdom Lists

This class will give some basic instruction on what to expect as a field Herald on a tourney field.  We will also delve into the different ways you may interact with the Lists team, and the partnership between Heralds and Lists that is needed for a successful tournament.

Finding and Evaluating Name Sources

When you can’t find a name online – or you’re just looking for resources beyond the standard places – where do you go? How do you figure out if it’s a good source? And how do you describe in a submission how we know it’s a good source – whether it’s in English or some other language?

The Care and Feeding of your Instrument

Instructor: Honorable Lady Mea Passavanti

This course is designed to go at the pace and experience of the group. It is an audience participation hour that will give you some practical tips on how to keep your voice in it’s best condition utilizing vocal warm ups, volume control, breath and diaphragm support and more. A handout will also be available.

Order Names – or How to Get Your Barony in Compliance with Corpora

We’ll explore the patterns and new decisions about order names that expand the languages and patterns we allow. As time provides, we’ll talk about specific problems and possible ways to document order names.

Did you know you don’t have to be loud or into names or armory to help the college of heralds thrive?  Join our round table discussion on all of the ways you can help behind the scenes.  From compiling email reports, to organizing volunteers, or even just signing people in there are dozens of ways you can help

Learn some of the more common causes of slow or stalled courts and how you, working with the Royalty/Baronage, court coordinator, and retinue, can make them more efficient and exciting!

Scribal Track

Intro to Scribal Diapering

Instructor: Dame Lissette de la Rose

A basic introduction to the concept and patterns of diapering. Elevate your scrolls by adding simple repetitive background patterns. Please bring a ruler, pencil, and some paper if possible. Limited supplies will be available.

Gottingen Model Book Diapering Patterns and Scribal Trading Cards

Instructor: Dame Tamlyn of Wyntersea

The class will give instructions on creating the diapering patterns in the Gottingen Model Book and as time allows simple foliage painting from the same book. Work is on Scribal Trading Cards (2-1/2×3-1/2 inches) so the ability to paint small areas is useful for this class. If you have them  bring small paint brushes and a pallette, though I will provide both of these and paints as needed.

This 50 minute class offers a primer to writing good scroll texts and ceremonials. It touches on how and where to find source materials and how to adapt for different cultures.

Calligrams: Thinking Outside the Box

Instructor: Bantiarna Máel Brigte inghean Aimirghin

Calligram: a set of words arranged in such a way that it forms a thematically related image.

This class explores pre-17th century examples of plants, animals, people, and geometric shapes formed with nothing more than words.  We’ll discuss methods of adapting such styles for Society purposes.
