Entry Requirements:
Each entrant must submit two distinct entries:

~ Persona-Based Entry
This entry must be directly connected to your persona—the time, place, and culture you portray. The piece should be representative of something that your persona would have used, worn, consumed, or created.
A basic written documentation will accompany the piece, detailing:

The time and place of your persona.

The historical background of the item.

How the piece fits into the daily life, status, or activities of your persona.

The methods and materials used in its creation, with as much historical accuracy as possible.

~ Apple-Themed Entry
The second entry needs to have a clear connection to apples. This may include, but is not limited to:
Historical food or beverage recipes using apples.

Herbal or medicinal applications of apples.

Apple-related tools, farming implements, or orchard practices.

Artwork, poetry, or illuminated texts referencing apples.

This entry must also be accompanied by a basic written documentation, including:

The historical source or inspiration for the item.

The role of apples within the culture and time period referenced.

Research supporting the item’s authenticity and relevance to pre-17th century practice.

Important Details:
Entry Deadline: Entrants must notify Their Excellencies of Terra Pomeria of their intent to compete by December 1, 2025.

Notifications should be made via email and need to include:

Name of the entrant.

A brief description of both entries.

The persona and time period represented.

Letters of intent can be presented in Court.

This is an opportunity to delve deeper into your persona in preparation for the Artifacts of a Life event the Barony of Terra Pomaria is hosting in March. Show us your interests, showcase your craftsmanship, and celebrate the wonders of your pre-17th century life. Whether your work is in fiber, food, metal, manuscript, or beyond, everyone eagerly awaits your creations.
Let your research be meticulous, your hands be steady, and your hearts be full of the joy of the arts.
In service to the dream,
HL Nakkan Kanavati

Event schedules are often easier to block out; class schedules can be tricky when you factor in not just tracks of subject matter but who might be interested (new comers? Families with children?), timing, sequencing, conflicts of interest with other event activities, etc. Lecture/discussion format with a hands on class schedule to design if there is time. Bring note taking materials and questions. 1 or 1.5 hours.
  4. We Used to Eat That: Forgotten Grains, Veggies, and Potherbs, with Adhela of Ottersdam
Before modern bread wheat, what were people growing, and when did it change? And what about the contents of your market basket in modern times, such as carrots, celery, and spinach? Those items didn’t exist in their modern forms until much later in period, so what were people eating instead? It wasn’t all just cabbages and turhnips that got you through the winter and early spring. Skirret, orach, nettles, purslane, and a host of other things were a vital part of many period diets. Many of these are easily findable through modern seed companies, and grow readily in the Pacific Northwest. Come and learn about them!
