FAQ for An Tir’s reopening
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to let everyone know how thankful I am that everyone in the Kingdom has been very patient and kind when asking their questions about the reopening. This has been noticed.
Here is a little bit more information in a form of a FAQ. Your seneschals have received this information and the An Tir’s seneschals have very much been engaged in conversations with me since the announcement was made.
Please look over the FAQ and of course, as always, if you have any questions please shoot me an email.

AnTir Reopening FAQ
What is this language we have to post at every event, practice and meeting?
The language can be found at COVID Notice. But here is the language from the Society:
Motion by Dale Fong-Frederick to approve the following language, and require that it appear on all event notices, flyers, online announcements, and advertisements, as well as being posted in multiple locations, including Troll [Registration], at all events:
“Although the SCA complies with all applicable laws to ensure the health and safety of our event participants, we cannot eliminate the risk of exposure to infectious diseases during in-person events. By participating in the in-person events of the SCA, you acknowledge and accept the potential risks. You agree to take any additional steps to protect your own health and safety and those under your control as you believe to be necessary.
Seconded by Gigi Coulson. Opposed: None. Motion carried. This language will be required to appear on all event notices, flyers, online announcements, and advertisements, as well as being posted in multiple locations at any and all SCA-sponsored functions going forward.”
What if my Branch doesn’t want to do away with all the restrictions?
Branches can absolutely be more restrictive if they wish (except on vaccines; that is a hard Board rule). If the area in which an event is going to be held has more stringent restrictions than the SCA has, those must be followed. If the county where an indoor event is being held requires masks indoors, it’s masks indoors. If the municipality says gathering have to be below 200, there is an attendance limit of 200.
What about PreRegistration?
Preregistration will still be required after July 1st. There is no requirement for any particular system of preregistration. There is no requirement that prereg includes pre-payment; that is up to the group. The purpose of Prereg is to ensure that there’s a list of attendees with some form of contact information available in case local health authorities request it for contact tracing. Such lists should be kept for 60 days after the events. For local practices, meetings, etc, you can just have people sign in when they arrive. Technically at anything with combat-related activities we should be checking that everyone has signed a waiver anyway.
Can the Kingdom sponsor food and drink for attendees?
No. The Board’s resolution says that the SCA may not provide shared drinking containers or any food served in a buffet-style. We as a kingdom are not allowing shared food or sealed waters. Feasts are not allowed at this time. This resolution also applies to the “plate of pickles; and “plate of oranges.” If you have to ask it will most likely be a No.
If a merchant wants to make “tags” to identify whether a person is vaccinated can they distribute those?
There will be no endorsement of any such system by an SCA event, officer, or branch. Nor will any type of pressure to participate in such a system will be tolerated. This could violate our Bullying and Harassment policies. If a merchant is selling pins or what not people are free to purchase them. But any kind of distribution of anything that labels or tags people is not to be done in such a way that it implies any SCA endorsement of such labels.
