Winternights in Seagirt

Vetrnætr (Winternights) is a time in which a blessing to the Norse gods and Elves is done to thank them for a successful end to the growing season and to ask for protection against the harshness of winter. The name Vetrnætr is Old Norse composed from two words: vetr meaning winter, and nætr meaning nights.
Gather around the steaming cauldrons to have a meal together with the gods or the elves for an afternoon. Vetrnætr is an act tying and unifying our community. It is a festival where songs are to be sung, poems are read, and moments with dear ones are shared!
Please note that this is an outdoors event, under cover of a large timber-frame roof with a cement floor. If the weather is dry, we can also use the rest of the grounds. We plan on having braziers for heat but dress accordingly.

Items to Bring:

  • Chair (essential)
  • Snacks/Lunch
  • Beverages
  • Table (not-essential unless if you want to sit with only your group/pod) if you have space in your vehicle and a spare table to share, we would welcome it.
  • Brazier
  • Warm layers/dry shoes/blanket or sheepskin to put on your chair.
The main event area is under cover, on a cement floor, and open at the sides (it’s really nice). Parking is along the road.

Gate:

Ideally arrive before 4 pm as we would like to close gate around that time. If you are going to arrive later than that, please touch base with Morgaine Essex.

Fire Braziers Needed!

Yes, Winternights is an outdoor (but covered) event. Dress for the weather! However, we hope to offer warmth, as our plan is to set up braziers for the event (and cook over them as well!)
If you can bring a fire brazier (and propane tank) for the day, we would be very grateful.

Health and Safety

Although the SCA (Society of Creative Anachronism) complies with all applicable laws to ensure the health and safety of our event participants, we cannot eliminate the risk of exposure to infectious diseases during in-person events. By participating in the in-person events of the SCA, you acknowledge and accept the potential risks. You agree to take any additional steps to protect your own health and safety and those under your control as you believe to be necessary.

Meal Information

Food:

For Winternights we will have hot stews and bakery buns for dinner, as is the tradition.  There are vegetarian options. If you feel like you need more than this, you really hate stew, or have special concerns, no one is going be upset if you bring your own food.

Merchant Information

There will be merchanting allowed although we aren’t doing anything official. Merchants who wish to sell at a table are requested to bring a popup for outside the main area where space will be at a premium.

SOME LINEN FOR YOUR HEAD MILADY… Mistress Agneß Scherer

A demonstration of some simple veil styles with a variety of shaped veils to complete your outfit and cover your hair. We will have some discussion of how to dress your hair to make it easier to wear your veils. If you have a veil and don’t know how to style it, bring it!

This panel will include HH Sir Steinn, Viscount Sir Einar, Viscount Sir Liam, and other illustrious Knights. The panel will be followed by a round of pick-up fights, so bring your armour.
