The Barony of Terra Pomaria invites
all those interested in the equestrian arts and sciences of the
Middle Ages and Renaissance, military and peaceful, to attend three
days of classes and practical instruction.
Classes that are being offered
include at this event, (but are not limited to):
An Introduction to Horses
for Non-Horse Folk – This class will be aimed at SCA folk
who are not familiar with horses or have a fear of them.
Ground Crew 101 –
Upon successful completion of this class you will be ready and able
to assist in the vital role of ground support for mounted
activities.
History of Horses in the
Middle Ages – A discussion class on the role horses played
in medieval life (and death).
Barding and Horse
Costuming – This class is about dressing the horse in
period fashion.
Period Clothing for the
Rider – This class addresses the riders. What the well
dressed noble wore whilst riding.
Introduction to Classical
Riding – Instruction in the fundamentals of classical
riding for military and non-military purposes.
How to Ride Before The
Prince – Based on actual period texts, this class teaches
how to ride before royalty to best show off your
horsemanship.
Fundamentals of the Martial
Games – Here you will learn the basics of preparing for
military gaming elements like the quintain, rings, heads, javelin,
etc.
Realistic and Safe Sword Use
From Horseback – In this class you will learn how a sword
is wielded on horseback, in a historically accurate, yet safe
fashion.
Jousting 101-301– A
comprehensive introduction to the practices required to prepare you
and your horse to take part in arguably the most exciting of all
medieval equestrian sports.
Lance Work (It Is Not All
Jousting) – Yes, lances were not used exclusively couched
across the horses neck.
Mounted Archery 101 &
201 – This class is taught in two parts, first from the
ground and aims to prepare you to safely move to the saddle with
bow and arrow, riding and shooting sans reins.
Mounted Combat 101
– The aim of this class is to give you the tools you need to
prepare yourself and your mount for one-on-one, mock combat from
the saddle.
Rossfechten ~ Mounted Combat
from Period Manuals – For those mounted fighters with a
more experience, this aims to raise the game of mounted combat to a
new level.
Preparing the Horse for
Mounted to Ground Combat – In this class “troop training”
methods are used to teach horse to engage foes on the ground, with
confidence and control.
Having Horses At Your
Event – This class is for SCA members who are considering
adding equestrian activities to their events.
Challenge Course Design,
Building and Judging – The goal of this class is to give
event organizers some useful ideas that will help them design more
challenging, fun and fair activities for their
events.
