A&S

Friday

Rose
Beads 2- 4 pm  Lady Vilda

Beads
made from the petals of the rose have been a popular home craft
since the Victorian era, and possibly Medieval times, though
information is sparse for the latter. Delicate, and delicately
scented, they make a wonderful addition to the historically-based
ensemble. This workshop provides instructions for the entire
process, as well as the hands-on creation of one’s own
starter set of beads. Be aware, this is a messy undertaking, and we
do use essential oils. There is a $5 fee per person for
materials.

Patterning

Lady Angharat verch Reynulf

Do you want to wear linen or woolen hose for

Details on the Competitions

Calling all
woodworkers!

The Annual Hati
Longtooth Memorial Woodworking Competition will be held at Autumn
War. Bring your boxes, beds, carvings, whatever you make of wood,
and enter-be it made of trunk, limbs, plank or scrap. Does it have
more than one use? Will it last and is it “Ver’
Nice?” Enter and show it off, or just display it for fun!
Entries do not need to be newly-made for this competition. The only
requirements are that they be made of wood and that they have not
have previously won any SCA Arts and Sciences competition. In the
spirit of Hati’s own work, metal is acceptable and special interest
will be captured by the use of interesting grain. Hati believed in
making things that would outlast the woodworker, and be useful as
well as beautiful. The winner will earn a war point for their
choice of Vikings or Paris.

Autumn War
Brewing Contest Categories will be:

Beer

• Wine and
meads

Cordials

Non-Alcoholic

Bonuses for
documentation and not poisoning the judges. Prizes awarded for best
in each category. The best overall earns a war point for their
choice of side – Vikings or Paris.

Populace A &
S Competition:

Members are
encouraged to bring an item to display – documentation not
required, but encouraged if possible for display and to come vote
on their favorite item using the tokens at the Adult A &S
pavilion. It does not need to be newly made for this competition,
but not have won any SCA Arts and Sciences competition. There will
be separate areas for Youth and Adult, as needful. There will be a
prize awarded for the event favorite.

War Scenarios

The Vikings are sacking
Paris!

Some of the things we discussed
and came to terms with will be:

1) there will be 2 of the same
scenario. One with archery and one without.
2) there will be no more than 10 minutes between scenarios
3) Archery will not be limited
4) all battles are scored.
Scenarios are :
1) Vikings coming to shore.
This will be a no res battle to take the land around Paris. The
victory will go to the last man standing. We will do this battle
twice. The first one will be with archery, the second will be
without.
The last man standing in each battle will get a prize.
2) Castle battle.
the first scenario will be the Vikings attacking with walls of
Paris. Archery included.
Attackers will have 3 lives, defenders will have 2. Last man
standing wins the battle.
The Vikings have successfully taken part of the castle and the
French troops need to root them out. Vikings must defend their part
of the castle. No archery, attackers get 3 lives, defenders get
2.
3) Caravan battle.
With both sides being low on supplies a caravan passes close enough
for them to attack it and get needed supplies.
There will be ” wagons” with boxes in them. Who ever has the most
amount of boxes is the winner.
A) you will have 2 rezes
B) you may either fight or get boxes. If you are getting boxes you
must have full gauntlets.
C) Box carriers may be killed. If they are killed they must drop
the box where they died. They then must rez. When that box is
downed either side may may pick it up.

D) the boxes must be brought to
your own side’s rez point. Boxes may be stolen from the rez
point.
E) there may be things in the boxes, so handle them with care.
We will do this battle twice, first is with archery, second is
without.
4) Tunnel Battle
This is a modified bridge battle. The vikings have found a tunnel
leading into the city. It is a tunnel so pushing some one off only
makes them go to the back.
A) you have one life, use it well.
B) weapons are restricted to 7.5 feet long.
C) we will do this battle twice, one with and one without
archery.
5) Town battle!!!
There will be an odd number of buildings. This will be a timed
unlimited res battle. At the end of each 10 minute battle ( there
being 3 10 minute battles ) the side with the most amount of
buildings wins.
A) ownership.
A building is owned if at least one person is full body occupying
it. If an opponent is in the building when time is called the
ownership is in dispute, no owner. Both must be full body within
the building. A hand or foot doesn’t count
B) there will be only 1 opening to the building. There are no
windows to fight through but the walls can be taken out by moving
the hay bails.
C) archery through the opening only. Outside the building is fair
game but you may only shoot into the building through the
opening.
D) archery on the first scenario only
E) both sides will start an equal distance from the buildings.
6) zombie battle.
You know how this goes, no scoring on this one. It’s just for fun
and all the stick you can eat!
