The Shire
of Danescombe invites you to our third annual Danescombe
Academy.
This year’s academy is
entitled “Making the Middle Ages Materialize” and
will focus on classes and instruction that help you bring
history to life,
and make the Medieval and
Renaissance periods
tangible.
The Academy will feature four
tracks of classes: one devoted to each style of SCA fighting
– Rapier and Heavy, as well as two tracks of University
of Tir Righ A&S classes.
All classes will be very
hands-on, and aim to send you home with the tools and
resources to tackle your next re-creation project with
confidence.
The calibre
of instruction offered promises to be wonderfully high
– Knights, Dons and Donyas, and Laurels have already
signed on to teach a variety of classes.
In addition to two days of
classes, the Academy will also feature day food, a Tavern
& Revel on Saturday night, as well as a variety of fun
and entertainment for all.

represent Danescombe through their entertainment of the
populace.

stimulating conversation with our evening discussion class,
“Failing by Winning
and Succeeding by Loosing: A discussion on chivalry
in the SCA” hosted by HL Kieran
Gunn.
For those needing
nourishment,
dinner will be available from St. Gentian’s Table
(pre-ordering is highly recommended).
And, for
everyone with a sweet tooth to satisfy… We invite you to
participate in the first Danescombe Dessert
Auction!
Help raise money for our
Eternal Prince and Princess, Danescombe’s very own Sir
Raknar and Lady Chiara, by indulging in the delectable treats
graciously donated by the populace. If you
would like to contribute your famous treat to the auction,
please contact HL Jaida al-Zuhayr for
details.
Danescombe
Bardic Defender’s
Tournament
The theme of this
year’s competition will be
showmanship. Come, show us how your bardic
talents help make the Middle Ages materialize for those
around you.
Entrants should prepare a
maximum of two pieces, totaling no more than 7 minutes in
length (that’s two 3 and a half minute pieces, a 5
minute piece and a 2 minute piece, a 6 and a half minute
piece and a 30 second piece… you get the
idea). The emphasis is on an engaging
presentation and historical content.
Documentation while not required, is
encouraged. Entrants should pre-register
with the Autocrat.
All forms of bardic
performance are welcomed –dramatic presentations, vocal
pieces, dance, musical performances, and poetry are all
encouraged.
Bonus points will be awarded for those who demonstrate
talents in more than one style, and for those who are truly
entertaining.
The competition will take
place Saturday evening, during the revel. All entrants are welcome,
so come out, support your shire, and help enrich the ambiance
with your bardic skills
