It has been a cold and long winter. Snow has fallen in April. But now May approaches. The sun is shining. The bards are singing. The grass is growing. It must be time for Lions Gate annual celebration of Springtime – May Bardic. Come picnic with us at the village market and listen to our bards compete for the honour of being Lions Gate Bardic Defender. Or perhaps, a game of boules is more to your liking. Stroll through the market stalls to see the latest treasures from the artists and scientists of the Barony. Or just relax with friends over some mulled cider or some tea brought in from the far east.
Bardic Activities
Street markets have always looked for ways to bring the customers to them. One popular way was to have performers entertaining the crowds. We are proud to carry on that tradition at our marketplace. All bards whether they be singers, dancers, storytellers, jugglers, jesters, poets, minstrels, or puppeteers are welcome. Prizes will be awarded for outstanding performances in a variety of categories.
May Bardic is proud to host the Lions Gate Bardic Defender Tourney. We currently have three Bards willing to challenge for this honour. This competition will be happening throughout the day and will be intermingled with the other bardic performances.
In the evening, we plan to hold the first (and possibly only) BARDICDOME. Two bards enter, one bard leaves. We will divide our bards into teams that will compete in a bardic elimination challenge. Think of a bardic circle mixed in with Whose Line Is It Anyways.
There will also be space for dancing as we break down the marketplace after court.
Arts and Science activities
Our competition this year is pretty simple. Bring out you’re A&S entry and we will display them in one of our market stalls. The populace will vote on the items they like best in an old bean count. No documentation required. . Just bring it and show it off.
And since we are going with the marketplace theme, we want to encourage the artisans to considering selling their works. It doesn’t matter whether it is just one item or you figure you could fill a stall on it own, we welcome your business.
We also have room for some other merchants but space is limited. Please contact the autocrats if you have not already.
Games
Outside in the park right beside the hall and we will be setting up jeu de boules, croquet, and kubbs game. Inside we will have the usual board games.
There will be gluckhaus game set up and we will be playing for CHOCOLATE. Yes, bring your chocolate coins, Hershey kisses, and any other wrapped chocolate (or candy) to gamble away. But only bring the amount of chocolate you are willing to lose. (For those unfamiliar with Gluckhaus, it is a dice gambling game. )
