Winter War – March 9-11,
2012
Barony of Borealis (Edmonton, Aberta)
At winter’s end, warriors weary of their camps and await the
call to march forth. And the cry is sounded for Winter
War. Join the Barony of Borealis in a day filled with martial
and other activities and enjoy our potluck dinner.
War points will be awarded in Heavy, Rapier, Archery (onsite),
Arts & Sciences, and Bardic competitions. Young people’s
activities, including Youth Armoured Combat and table-top siege
warfare, will also contribute war points. Details of the
scenarios will be posted on the lists.
Other war points will include volunteering contributions and a
secret war point.
Feasting:
There
will be potluck dinner at 5:30 Saturday.
Every family group or individual who wants to be part of this feast
is asked to bring something to share. To avoid having too much of
one kind of food and not enough of another, we suggest you choose a
dish according to the first letter of your modern surname:
T – Z – Desserts, Fruit, dried fruit
N – S – Rice, Pasta, cheese, nuts
H – M – Salads and Veggies, pickles, olives
A – G – Breads and spreads
How much food? Imagine that no one else brought any food and you
(or your group) had to make do with the food you brought. Would
there be enough to satisfy you? If the answer is “yes” then that is
enough food. The Borealis Culinary Guild will be providing hot meat
dishes; there should be plenty for all!
What kind of food? Something that looks medieval if possible, but
if it’s a choice between flavourful modern food, or questionable
medieval fare, you know which one is preferred! Please provide an
ingredient list to help those who need one. If
you require electricity (e.g. for a rice cooker), that can be
arranged. Please make sure the food is “ready to serve” when it is
brought to the buffet table. For further
questions, please contact the Butler.
