The Art of Smashing
Dragon’s Mist Beaverton, OR
April 27, 2001

The Shire of Dragon’s Mist invites you to join us for our Arts and Sciences championship and sundry competions, displays, and excuses to have fun on April the 27th.

There will be four competitions:
A&S CHAMPIONSHIP: Those entering the A&S championship do so with the understanding that, should they win, they will be expected to actively promote the arts and sciences in Dragon’s Mist for the coming year. The theme of competion is smashing. All entries must be fully documented, and must be something that could smash, does smash, is smashed, might smash, or depicts smashing. While you must stick with the recognized standards of documentation for your entry, creativity in the explanation of how a project relates to smashing is highly encouraged. Entrant sign-up runs from 9-11am, presentations begin at noon. You are strongly encouraged to contact the autocrat in advance if you plan to compete. Keep in mind that food and drink are not allowed in the room where presentations will take place when considering your entry (however, if you contact the autocrat IN ADVANCE, she may be able to make accomodations for unusual entries). Also, please note that all entrants need to be paid members of the Society.

SCRIBAL SMACKDOWN: In keeping with smashing, scribes shall bring scrolls which depict things smashed or smashing to be judged by our panel of experts. This is separate from the championship, but scrolls can be entered in the championship as well.

DRAGON IN ANY MEDIUM: A Shire favorite! Entries must depict or be about a dragon. While documentation is not required, period items receive better consideration.

VEGGIE CARVING: Bring your eating knives and a sense of humor, we’ll provide the rest.

There will be other excitements throughout the day, including much sillyness, and displays of the work of several talented folk.

The shire will provide lunch. Dinner will be a potluck feast. As a general guide, bring enough to serve 10 people. Please bring dishes acording to mundane last name: A-E, desserts/nuts; F-J protein dishes; K-P grains/cheese; R-Z vegetables/fruits.

AUTOCRAT: Eulalia de Ravenefeld (Laurel Black) 503-517-5478 no calls after 10pm, please; Reed College MS 116; 3203 SE Woodstock Blvd.; Portland, OR 97202 (e-mail is the preferred method of contact)

SITE INFO: Kinton Grange, 19015 SW Scholls Ferry Road; Beaverton, OR 97007-8724 . Site fee is $5, babes in arms free. Make checks payable to the SCA – Dragon’s Mist. Site opens at 9AM for sign up and closes at 10PM. This is a dry site.
