SeaLion A&S War Points
Their Excellencies, Baron Liam and Baroness Nadezhda of Seagirt and
Baron Gerhard and Baroness Amanda of Lions Gate, send greetings,

After much consultation, we have mutually decided on the following
Arts and Sciences War Points for SeaLion War.

The Arts point will be the best personal pennant, with the
stipulations that it must be able to fly, must not exceed the
dimensions of 25 inches and 70 inches and that it must represent an
individual, not a group.

The Sciences point will be the best reconstruction of an
archaeological find, as it would have appeared in its own period of
use. Each entry should be accompanied by a photograph (can be a
photocopy of a photograph) of the original artifact, and the
documentation should be as detailed as possible, including such
information as location of discovery, current location, actual
dimensions, materials etc. This is meant to be a replica work, and
documentation is required for entry.

This site was built as an Equestrian Park, so it does have some
advantages, the ground is drier due to a layer of gravel below the
grass and dirt, it is treed, has blackberry bushes and is fairly
isolated, being surrounded on 3 sides by water… Small children
should be looked after because of the water hazard. Now since the
war is in May we all know the chance of rain… above ground fires
are allowed… We have the whole park for this event with lots of
different areas for war scenarios, hill battles, wood battles…

This site is Discretely Damp. Period containers are a must. Kingdom
and Canadian Liquor Laws concerning alcohol/drug policies will be
followed, especially concerning under-aged drinking…

Island 22 has potable water. But as this is a large event, BRING
WATER, and the drive to town is not that far… we will be supplying
the water bearers with water and the Chirurgeons with water.

Parking – parking will be in designated areas only.

Site Directions
To get there – make your best way to Canada’s Highway #One (the
Trans Canada). Heading East or West, depending on where you are
coming from, drive toward Chilliwack.

From the West (Vancouver, Abbotsford, Sumas, Aldergrove, etc) – take
the Chilliwack Exit that is labeled “Chilliwack Airport”. This is the
second turning in a two part exit ( #119). (I cannot put signs on the
highway as the ministry of highway will remove them!) This will put
you on Yale Road.
The first light you will come to is a from the left intersection
only. Drive through it. The second light is AIRPORT ROAD. Turn
Right. Go across the Railroad tracks to the light at YOUNG ROAD and
turn left. Follow Young Road through town and past Minter Country
Gardens, then start looking for Cartmell Road on the left. There is a
small Blue sign that directs you to Island 22. Turn left onto
CARTMELL ROAD. The equestrian park is on the left hand side after you
pass through a gate… please drive slowly down the gravel section of
Cartmell as we wish to retain the goodwill of all who live there and
use the park!

From the East (Hope, the Interior of BC, etc) – Take the Young Road
exit. Turn right onto YOUNG ROAD. Follow the directions from “follow
Young Road”, as above, to the site.

War Points
3 points for the heavy/light battles
1 point for the rapier scenarios
1 point for archery
1 point for arts
1 point for science

Archery (3 contests for 1 point)

1. Arrow Competition – Each side has max 2-3 man teams. Teams given
materials (including tools and glues)
to build and shoot 6 arrows. Fastest team wins. Each hit on target
subtracts 5 seconds from teams time.

2. Wand shoot. Elimination rounds using actual wooden wands.
(Elimination starting at 20 yards and moving back after each elimination)

3. Arrow Loop Shoot – Head to head shoot firing through an arrow
slot, 6 arrows in ground 20 yards back. Each archer must retrieve 1
arrow at a time. Fastest time wins. Each hit – 5 seconds off time.

Heavy/Lights Battles (3 points)

1. Bridge Battle – Medieval Bridges (Long and narrow) Two bridges at
opposite ends of war field (quite far apart) Bridge A 5′ wide-50′
wide. Bridge B 4′ wide-36′ long. This would include archery and siege
engines.

2. Field battle – this would be the native troops and fealties with
archery and siege engines.

3. King of the Hill.- Build a castle out of hay bales on the hill.
Each side defends for 1 battle.
Defenders 1 life. Attackers unlimited resurrection. Winner is
attackers with fewest resurrections used.
(for this one we were thinking that the siege engines should not
have the resurrection. As for archers would it work to have them use
the same resurrection limits but with the added factor that if they
run out of arrows,
there is no gleaning)

Rapier (3 battles for 1 point)

Rubber Band Guns could be included in some of the rapier battles,
which ones to be decided on site by Their Excellencies Seagirt and
Lions Gate. There would be a maximum of two guns per person and two
shots per gun.

1. Field battle. Dragoons, archers, siege engines.

2. Ravine Sheep Raid – Opposite sides of river are herds. Side with
most sheep after 15min wins. Enemy sheep can be a) brought to your
side of river. b) thrown into ravine and die. c) warrior may throw
himself into ravine to rescue two sheep thus sacrificing himself for
the greater good.

3. Huck Finn River Raft Battle – (in ravine) Square rafts. Only
moved if all on board kneel (min 4 on board) and lift sides and move.

Arts Point

The Arts point will be the best personal pennant, with the
stipulations that it must be able to fly, must not exceed the
dimensions of 25 inches and 70 inches and that it must represent an
individual, not a group. Pennant – a long narrow flag tapering to a
point or a swallowtail or a rounded swallowtail.

Sciences Point

The Sciences point will be the best reconstruction of an
archaeological find, as it would have appeared in its own period of
use. Each entry should be accompanied by a photograph (can be a
photocopy of a photograph) of the original artifact, and the
documentation should be as detailed as possible, including such
information as location of discovery, current location, actual
dimensions, materials etc. This is meant to be a replica work, and
documentation is required for entry.
