The Moon Festival

Bright moon, when was your birth?
Winecup in hand, I ask the deep blue sky;
Not knowing what year it is tonight
In those celestial palaces on high. I long to fly back on the
wind,
Yet dread those crystal towers, those courts of jade,
Freezing to death among those icy heights!
Instead I rise to dance with my pale shadow;
Better off, after all, in the world of men.

Rounding the red pavilion,
Stooping to look through gauze windows,
She shines on the sleepless.
The moon should know no sadness;
Why, then, is she always full when dear ones are parted?
For men the grief of parting, joy of reunion,
Just as the moon wanes and waxes, is bright or dim:
Always some flaw-and so it has been since of old.
My one wish for you, is long life
And a share in this loveliness far, far away!

Greetings and salutations unto the populace of An Tir from
the Shire of Coeur du Val! We cordially invite you to join in
our celebration of the harvest season as we honor the Moon in
the traditions of our Khan and Khatun of the Summits. It is a
time to reflect on the year and to see your loved ones in the
shining moon. There will be wondrous foods of lands far to
the East, beyond the rising sun. Classes will be held, so
that all may be scholars of the arts.

The site will open at 11:00 am and close at 10:00 pm. Site
fee is $7.00 for members and $10.00 for non-members. Site fee
includes a Chinese tea luncheon, but does not include the
evening’s feast (cost tbd). Site is discreetly wet, in that
you may bring wine to have with your feast.

Our site includes a covered tournament field for heavy and
rapier fighting, so bring out your armor for one last huzzah
on the field of battle! Classes and other themed activities
will also be available during the afternoon.

We look forward to sharing in the customs of the Moon
Festival with you!
