The Shire of Dragon’s Mist is helping the Beaverton Farmers’ Market turn back time to when open air markets were a mainstay of commerce. On September 17, 2005, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., we will be holding the second Medieval Market Day Demo. This year we add the Shire of Dragon’s Mist Defenders’ Tournament for Heavy and Rapier fighters.

We’d like to make sure we have lots of people there to demonstrate the numerous activities the SCA has to offer and to add to the ambiance of the market. This is also a wonderful opportunity to get publicity for the SCA. But in order to make a presence, we invite the surrounding branches to participate as well.

Some of the things we would like to make this successful include:

Fighters –heavy, rapier and boffer – DM Defenders’ Tournament for Heavy and Rapier to take place and we’re seeking noble fighters to vie for the chance to become the next Defender.
A Fashion Parade – chance to model your fine garb, all time periods and locations welcome.
Scribal – Write people’s names in calligraphy, runes or just sit and catch up on painting charters.
Strolling Musicians and Singers – groups or individuals
Dancers – both English Country and Middle Eastern welcomed and encouraged
Games – people to teach/play medieval games
Heralds’ Point – (Wanted: Heralds for town cry, tournament and talks to public)
Storytellers & Jugglers
Fiber arts – sewing, drop spindle, card weaving, inkle weaving, needlework, etc.
Metal arts – a small forge would be wonderful, armor/chain mail working
Children’s activities (e.g. Whack-a-Knight!)
Archers (not able to shoot, but a chance to make/repair arrows while explaining how archers changed warfare.)
Cooking Demonstration – Cooks needed to show off their stuff!
SCA Info Booth – people willing to talk about how fun it is to be in the SCA.

While we have some of the above already slated, the more the merrier! But not everybody has to demonstrate something, just being there in garb and walking around providing ambiance would be very helpful. Plus, the shopping is great.

As this is a demo, THERE IS NO COST TO PARTICIPATE! It’s FREE. No site fees, no NMS, just a small donation of time and talent. Please be sure to bring your necessary paperwork (fighter card, blue card and/or waiver).

Please email moc.liamtoh@yadmfbmd if you can assist in any way, would like to coordinate an activity, have questions or suggestions. Visit for updates.
