Thrown Weapons Championship Tournament
Greetings to those wishing to challenge for the Lions Gate Thrown Weapon Championship. Here is proposed format of the tourney with the caveat that this is subject to change based on conditions on the day of the Tournament.
Practice – Time permitting there will be chance to warm up and practice before the qualifying rounds. However, once the qualifying rounds start, no practice throws will be allowed.
Qualifying Round – This will be a half round of the An Tir Royal Round with 10 axe throws, 10 knife throws, and 10 spear throws at the standard distances. There will be no practice throws when switching weapons. The top throwers will move on to the final round.
The finals will consist of a knife end, an axe end, and a spear end.
Knife End
Knife throwing does show up in some of the historical fencing manuals such as Michael Hundt’s Ein new Kůnstliches Fechtbuch im Rappier published in 1611. The knife end will reflect this.
Challengers will have five knife throws but must also hold a sword or rapier in the other hand pointed at the target. There is no restriction on what hand the throwing dagger is in and which hand the sword is in. The target would consist of three playing cards inside the 14 inch circle. The thrower would score the playing value of the card the first time they hit the card but only 1 point for any subsequent hits on the same card which is the same they would score for any knife sticks that do not hit a playing card. Distance of the target would be the standard 10 feet.
Axe End
Challengers would have seven axe throws. The target will again consist of the three playing with scoring the same as the knife end. Distance of the target would be 15 feet.
Spear End
Challengers will have 10 spear throws. The distance will be determined on site with some calibration throws from the finalists but aiming for around 10 yards. The target is still to be determined but will also be larger to go with the greater distance.
In Service,
Baron James the Just
Lions Gate Champion of Thrown Weapons
