Their Excellencies of The Wonderous Barony of Aquaterra invite you to join us at Good Yule Saturday, December 3rd, 2022. Join us in celebrating Fry Johns’ return from his… errr… Culinary crusade!? Yeah! Culinary Crusade. Fry John LOVES food. His sole purpose in life is food. So when he was tasked with accompanying the Bishop on this reeeeally long trip, he was delighted! He could only think of the marvelous cuisine he would have the opportunity to enjoy in all these new faraway places! And while it may have seemed like a tiresome and looooong journey he is just so happy to have returned and excited to share all the wonderful new meals and dishes he discovered! We will taste delicious fares from England, Italy, France and delicacie desserts from Persia.

Bring your favorite goblet and drink and celebrate with us!

As always, we will have a dessert auction. This years auction beneficiary is Pasado’s Safe Haven. Bring your wonderful and tasty desserts for donation and let some lucky friends win it at auction!

We do ask that, if you choose to bring a dessert to contribute to the auction, you write out a detailed list of ingredients to enter along with your dessert. This will ensure that those with food limitations will be able to choose accordingly.

The silent auction will also be held this year. Auction proceeds will go to the Raven Travel Fund. Please Contact Michelle Rairigh at AQGoodYule@gmail.com to donate.

We will welcome donations the day of the event when you arrive on site but donations can also be dropped off to Michelle at the November business meeting or you can contact her to arrange a different drop off if necessary.

Our goal is to have an inclusive feast this year and make sure we have something to eat for every person. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies please contact us to let us know. For questions about ingredients or other feast food-related info, please contact us AQGoodYule@gmail.com.

Tournament Information

Their Excellencies and their Champions are hosting our Arts and Sciences Championship as well as the Bardic Championship this day.

Rules for the Bardic Championship are as follows:

There will be a total of three pieces presented by each participant.

Any and all bardic arts may be presented. (Song, story, instrumental music, drama, dance, etc.)

The first two pieces will be of the contestants’ choosing, either period or non-period but SCA appropriate.

  • Documentation for these pieces will be no more than 500 words.
  • Illustrations, appendixes, and bibliography will not apply to word count.
  • If a non-period piece is used, documentation must include what makes it an appropriate piece

Each of the first two bardic presentations will be a total of 30 minutes maximum. The first 15 minutes will be given for each presentation, with an additional 15 minutes for questions and answers with the judges.

The third presentation will be Master Jason’s bardic challenge.

  • Each participant will receive a piece to perform one week before the event.
  • The same piece will be sent to all participants. It will be a period song, with English and French lyrics.
  • The participants will have one week to prepare the piece for performance.
  • Though the piece will be a song, it is up to the performer as to how it will be presented. It can be done as a song (with either or both sets of lyrics used), as a dramatic reading, as a basis for a puppet show, as interpretive dance, etc. This is the place to let your creativity be shown. Let your imagination run wild!
  • As in the first two pieces, each bardic presentation will be a total of 30 minutes maximum. The first 15 minutes will be given for each presentation, with an additional 15 minutes for questions and answers with the judges.
  • Documentation will not be required for this piece but may be presented if the contestant so desires.

Rules for Arts and Sciences are as follows:

The winter holiday is about spending time with the people we care about and celebrating. For the competition, show us a piece of celebration from period. An outfit, a dish, a decoration, etc!

  • Documentation is required, maximum of 500 words.
