“When
I bestride him, I soar;
I am
a hawk; he trots the air.
The
earth sings when he touches it.
He is pure
air and fire;
He is
indeed a horse…”
Shakespeare,
Henry V

Come
to the Equestrian Ithra to learn more about horses, their
place in history and how they can be part of your SCA
experience.

This
session is for everyone.  You need not own a horse or
have any previous experience around them at all.  The
mounted classes are for those who do own horses, or have
made previous arrangements to bring a rented horse–no
rentals will be available on site.

However, there is
a great deal to learn about horses, how to care for them,
how to take part in SCA equestrian activities and how to
bring them to events, all of which can (and should) be
learned before you ever get on a horse.  There are a
wide variety of non-mounted classes with something for
every interest and experience level.

Please note that
there are two sessions of the “How to Ground Crew” class
being offered.  Everyone who wishes to be in the arena
while riding is taking place *must* first take this
class.  Ground crew for equestrian events are badly
needed, and this class teaches you these important skills
as well as basic safety.  If you have never taken this
class before, please plan to do so and plan your class
schedule accordingly.

Everyone
attending should bring a chair and a box lunch, as the site
is far from convenient food purveyors.  There is no
camping on site.  For information on accommodations,
please contact the Autocrat.

Following classes on Sunday, there will be a Challenge
Course starting about 2 p.m. This is a mix of equestrian
games, scored on time and points. Spectators are welcome
and encouraged, and this is an opportunity to use your new
ground crew skills. There will be a prize of a wooden sword
suitable for the ‘beheading the enemy’ game, as well as a
scroll.
We
look forward to seeing you there!

On-line
registration ends Saturday, May 1, 2004.  Payment MUST
be received no later than Tuesday, May 4, 2004 or your
registration will not be accepted.  THERE WILL BE NO
REGISTRATION ON CAMPUS!  Classes will fill on a
first-come, first-served basis, based solely on receipt of
payment.  So register and send in your payment
early!

All
applicable fees must accompany your registration
form.

These are the
closest motels to the site. I think that there is a back
way that comes to the Ranch from the other direction on
9. (There is an incredible spa/hotel at the Willows
Lodge, but at $250 a night. I don’t think that most
people would be itnerested.)

You should also
note that although there is nothing within walking distance
of the site.  There are multiple food sources just a 5
minute drive away  KFC, McDonald’s, Red Robin, Taco
Bell, Tops Foods, Pallino’s, Genghis Khn Mongolian Grill,
Taco Del Mar…

Please feel free to post this to other lists.
