Their Excellencies of Dragon’s Lire, Conchobar MacEoin and Eilidh Keldeleth, cordially invite you to a day of fun and merriment as we celebrate Yule with the Feast of Saturnalia.  Traditionally in Dragon’s Laire, Yule is a relaxed event where we come together to enjoy each other’s company without the stresses of larger events where many of us have some meeting, class, or fighting that we need to be at. This year we’re planning a fun and festive heavy tourney, a Medieval to Modern A&S display, presentation(s) from our Research Corpus, and more. Please check here often for updates as information becomes available.

Arts and Sciences

Many of us have learned various skills to make awesome things to use to enhance our garb, persona, camp, and the game.  What we often don’t see is what modern things we have made using the skills we’ve learned in the SCA.  This year we’e having a Medieval to Modern A&S Display.  Bring that modern garment that you sewed or knitted. Let’s see some of your woodworking creations. What have you embroidered or embellished? Tables will be set up near the windows to display your item(s). There will be 3X5 cards available to tell us your name and what medieval skills you used to make your item.

Table Decorating Contest

Alongside our Roman feast this Yule, we will decorate our hall in the spirit of ancient Roman Feast, Saturnalia. We encourage all to create a festive centerpiece for their feast table to be judged during our merry feast. Saturnalia was a day of revelry, role reversals and a King of Fools to reign over the celebration mayhem. Many of our medieval Yuletide customs— gift giving, burning of candles, excess in tasty food and drink for all, and colorful revelry all have roots in the festival devoted to Roman deity, Saturn.  The hall and head table will be decorated in gold and burgundy with plenty of greenery. All tables will be covered in a white table cloth, however, feel free to bring your own. Be as creative as you’d like, just remember that real flames are prohibited by the hall.  Battery operated candles are fine.

Charity Drive

It has become tradition in Dragon’s Larie to do a charity drive at Yule.  Some may not be aware that our site is a warming shelter for the local community.  They would be grateful to us if we could help them by collecting warm gloves, hats, scarves, and hand warmers (often found in the camping section of big box stores). We did such a good job of collecting socks for them two years ago that they still have some!  Let’s knock their socks off with our generosity once again.

This isn’t your normal tourney.  Come and see if you have what it takes to be St. Nick as you compete in the Santa Gauntlet Blanket Tourney. Fighters will have to defend their bag of loot as they make their way through the gauntlet of fighters who are trying to stop you every step of the way. The fighter who makes it through the gauntlet with the most packages intact will be the winner. To enter this tourney fighters should bring a prize to put on the blanket, this can be something for a fighting kit, something garb related, an item of feast gear, or ??? Fighters may be sponsored by a member of the populace if they need a prize for the blanket.

Information about a Rapier tourney will be available soon.
