A Game of
Thrones and Stormgods
The Barony of
Stromgard invites one and all to join us for our Game of Thrones
and Stormgods July 22-24 in the secluded rolling hills of the
Zumstein Family Farm near Woodland, Washington.
We’ll start
the event right on Friday night with our Barons’ Birthday
Bash—a tasty celebration of current and past barons. Once the
Saturday morning mists subside, we’ll have a full day of
activities including opening and evening courts, heavy and rapier
fighting, archery and thrown weapons, arts and sciences, equestrian
activities, and a youth scavenger hunt.
Stromgard’s
baronial Heavy, Rapier and Equestrian Champion’s tournaments
and Comes Tiernan’s Game of Thrones will take place during
the day. Prepare yourselves for EPIC battles! Those wishing to
enter any of the champions’ tournaments must present
themselves along with a letter of intent to the Gracious Baroness
Miranda and Fierce Baron Tiernan during morning court.
We’ll round out the day with
the hugely popular after-dark adults-only, “Race for the
Horde.” Everyone needs to bring a prize to enter the race.
Speaking of prizes, Stromgard is renowned for our generous gifting
and word fame. This event will be no different.

There is
no potable water for humans on site. Water is available for horses.

Heavy
Armored Combat Champions Tournament
All
entrants are required to present themselves along with a letter of
intent to Their Excellencies of Stromgard in morning court. All
entrants are required to fight in the war scenarios.
Initial rounds will consistent of standard double elimination
tournament with open weapon type until there are 8 combatants
remaining.
War scenarios begin.
With only 8 combatants remaining the format changes to round robin
format with matched multi-weapons (spear, great axes, single sward
and dagger) interspersed with war scenarios. The two combatants
with the most wins advance to the finals, which will be fought with
sward and shield. The first combatant with 2 kills in a row
wins.
The winner
of the tournament will receive a replica of the Viking Age Mammen
Axe and the most chivalric combatant will receive a Viking Age
rowing bench crafted by Sir Arnsbjorn.
Rapier Champions
Tournament
All wishing to compete to be rapier champion
of the Barony of Stromgard must present themselves and a letter of
intent to their Excellencies of Stromgard during morning court. One
need not compete for the championship in order to compete in the
tournament. The format is a bear pit and each combatant gets 3
ribbons. The lowest ranking fighter holds the eric first. Upon
victory the winner stays in and receives one of the loser’s
ribbons (or lives). Any fighter holding the eric for a third bout
must leave with the loser but still receives the ribbon from the
loser. After losing all three ribbons, fighters are out of
tournament. The last two fighters will go to the finals in a best
two out of three with the Baronesses’ choice of weapons.
Prizes will be awarded for first place as well as for chivalry. The
fencing community in attendance will select the most chivalric
combatant.
Following the championship tournament, time permiting, there will
be a cut and thrust tournament sponsored by Stromgard’s
current baronial rapier champion, Lord Armand de Castille. The
format is double elimination with the final round being best two
out of three.
Thrown Weapons
Competition
There will be a series of
three novelty throws, one each for axe, knife, and spear. Points
would be earned for each weapon type and the winner is the one with
the highest point total. Fabulous prizes will be awarded for first
and second place.
Axe: A three foot section of log would be suspended from the apex
of a tripod. The log would be approximately 8 inches in diameter
and would have a 3 inch circle painted in the middle of it. Each
thrower would get 5 throws scoring 1 point for a stick in the log
and 2 points if the axe sticks in the circle for a maximum score of
10 points.
Knife: In essence it will be a 5 card stud poker game. 13 cards,
one each of ace through king, will be attached to the target face.
Each thrower will get 5 throws. The scoring will be based on the
‘hand’ each person earns and how many cards are hit
with the knife. 1 Point will be earned for each card hit plus 5
points for a 5 of a kind, 4 points for 4 of a kind, etc., down to 1
point for a one of a kind. The knife must stick in the target for
any points to be earned. The maximum score would be 10 points.
Spear: Ropes will be laid out on the ground to form a Tic-Tac-Toe
board with 12 inch squares. A line will be placed 20 feet from the
board and throwers must stay behind this line. Scoring will be
based on the number of throws it takes to get 3 in a row. If it is
done in 3 throws the player earns 10 points, in 4 throws the player
earns 9 points, etc., down to 1 point for 12 throws.
Equestrian
Activities
The paddock situation is the same as in the
last few years. There is an area separating the rest of the event
with a fence, in which you may set up temporary corrals and camp as
close to your horses as you wish. There will be horse water, but as
with the rest of the site, there is no human water. Please contact
Stromgard Equestrian Champion, Drifa in Rauða
(quincydew(@)aol(dot)com) if you are planning to bring horses.
There are 85 acres of trails and fields to explore, bridges,
creeks, stairs, railroads…etc.
Friday there will be time to authorize new riders and practice. On
Saturday there will be the standard games, a challenge course, and
a short trail course as well. Winners will be declared for each of
these three events. The combined score from these three events will
determine the next Stromgard Equestrian Champion. You need not
compete for the championship to have word fame spread far and wide
of your deeds, or to win any of the awesome prizes we have this
year (and they are pretty awesome)!
There is also the possibility of jousting practice, heavy mounted
combat and a live steel demo. On Sunday we plan to set up a mounted
archery course. As in the past, the schedule may change depending
on the weather. However if the weather is a perfect 75 degrees,
things will be running on time! If you would like to sponsor some

Archery Competitions
Youth Tournament:
We will be holding a novelty shoot with a bunch of fun targets for
the youth ages 5-15, there will be a very limited amount of loaner
gear available. Any youth age 5-12 must have a parent with
them.
Adult Tournament:
The adult tournament will consist of a Royal Round and a multiple
distance clout shoot with targets at random distances out to 100
yards.
The populace will vote in two categories: 1. Most improved and 2.
Populace choice with winners receiving a pair of pottery cups made
by local artisans and a $50 gift certificate to
Pastice.
